Akara

Akara or beans cake commonly known by non Nigerians, high protein. made from beans known as kosai by the hausa people of Nigeria and Koose by the Ghanians. It is commonly taken as breakfast with pap, custard, or tea, any type of beans can be used for this. Follow me as i show you how to make this lovely breakfast choice.

Ingredient:
3 cups of beans
2 onions [ I love onions :)]
3 red bell peppers
4 long chili peppers
salt
spring onions [optional]
vegetable oil

Directions:
soak the beans for 3hours or more [some people soak and wash the beans over night but it can also be done on the same day if you use hot boiling water] this process is to help you take away the coat of the beans. When the beans is soft wash it until it looks like this...
Then wash the onions, bell peppers and chili peppers blend them together using your blender but make sure it is not too watery while blending. The chili peppers and red bell peppers will help the granted beans to be reddish in colour. When it is blended make sure it is soft and smooth, add salt and stir [the spring onions can be added now optional ]well while that is going on place the frying pan on the stove add vegetable oil [this would be a deep frying] and allow it to be hot. When it is hot start frying the akara make sure both sides should be golden brown. When ready serve hot and enjoy.
